Free Range Pork from the Highlands of Scotland
About Us

The Mackay family have farmed Brackla for three generations. It was originally farmed by my Grandfather just before the war, where he grew barley and produced finishing cattle. Gradually it has evolved into a 350 acre farm, which includes a small Highland Cattle herd as well as finishing cattle, also we produce certified seed barley for sale to other farmers and merchants, and since 1993 we have had an outdoor pig herd.

In September 2007 it was decided to go to the farmers market with our pork, this has proved very successful, with our customers very happy with what we produce. Since then we have decided to include internet sales and hope to build on our sales.

The pigs which we produce are a cross between Duroc and Landrace, which we believe gives succulent and tasty pork. The pigs are bred outside up until the finishing stage where they are brought inside to straw bedded courts until they are ready for slaughter. The outdoor system is the preferred option for our herd as our ground is very light with low rainfall, ideally suited to outdoor pigs and we believe the outdoor pig is healthier, happier and fitter which results in very tasty and tender pork.

I hope you enjoy our pork and come back for more
